Afzal Completed LL.B. from University of London (2008) and BPTC from City Law School (2010-2011). He was called to the Bar by the Inner Temple in 2011 (Member No: 58964). Afzal was reading for a Ph.D. but decided to come to practice and gave up plans for a PhD. He received a ‘distinction’ for LL.M. dissertation on Judicial Activism at the European Court of Justice; research focus was European policy making.

Before being called to the English Bar Afzal was a level-3 OISC advocate specialising on complex asylum and immigration referrals from other practitioners for specialist advice and advocacy; and also had a short stint in teaching law at the former North London University and few other independent colleges. Also had a short career working for the European Union as law officer and managed independent legal practices. He was trained by the UNHCR and ICRC on laws of international and non-international armed conflict. Experienced in diplomatic and legal drafting by virtue of former employments. Specialises on asylum and human rights, public law, regulatory issues and civil litigations.
His notable works included advising client in claims against the Central Bank of Nigeria in proceedings at the Chancery Division.
Advised a UK registered subsidiary of a South-Asian bank on repatriating laundered funds from Turkish Cyprus.
Formerly a trainer for Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants (JCWI). Advised EU Observer Mission EU-EOMB 2001 to Bangladesh as specialist on electoral laws, regulatory reforms and Security & Public Order enforcement issues. Afzal has a strong client base in GCC and North Africa for civil works and advisory.
